The health care facilities of continuing care retirement communities (CCRC) are all inclusive within the community itself. Such a community will have individual housing for its residents that can live independently, an assisted living facility for residents that require some help with daily care, and a nursing home for residents requiring the most intensive level of care. Residents, depending on their health care requirements at any given time may move from independent living in either an individual house or apartment, to an assisted living facility, to a nursing home, or in reverse from nursing home, to assisted living, to independent living. In other words, all levels of care are provided for within the community.

The costs of Continuing care Retirement Communities usually involve an entry fee that can range from 38,000 to 500,000 with monthly payments ranging from 700 to 4,000 per month.

Board and Care Homes

This group living arrangement is usually a licensed privately run arrangement in a household setting. that is sometimes called a group home. Although many of these homes do not receive payment from Medicare or Medicaid and are not strictly monitored, sometimes private long-term care insurance and other types of assistance programs may help pay for this type of living arrangement. Otherwise, the monthly charge is usually based on a percentage of one’s income. Basically, these type of facilities provide the same level of care as would be provided by an Assisted Living, facility but in a more home-like setting

Assisted Living

In Assisted Living Facilities, the residents usually have a private room or share a room. The care level provided is meals that are eaten together with the other residents, help with activities of daily living such as eating, bathing, using the bathroom, taking medicine, getting to appointments, and some types of social activity.

Costs for assisted living vary widely depending on the size of the living area, services provided, whether the facility itself is basic or upscale, and the type of help required. In which case costs can range from a couple of thousand a month to several thousands per month

Housing for Aging and Disabled Individuals

These are health care facilities for older or disabled individuals of low or moderate income. While the income levels may vary from state to state, usually it is less than $46,000 if single or $53,000 if married. A Federal or State agency will review the income of an applicant to decide if they qualify for this type of housing. Many times, there is a waiting list, with monthly income and expenses to see if you are eligible for this type of housing. Rent payments are usually a percentage of income and many times a qualified applicant then goes on a waiting list.
